Position Summary

The Moderate to Severe Education Specialist provides specialized instruction, behavioral support, and individualized educational programming for students with moderate to severe disabilities. Working collaboratively with administrators, related service providers, paraprofessionals, and families, the Education Specialist develops learning environments that foster independence, communication, and student achievement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Deliver specialized academic, functional, communication, and life-skills instruction
  • Differentiate instruction to meet each student's unique learning needs
  • Utilize evidence-based instructional and behavioral intervention strategies
  • Collaborate with speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, school psychologists, and behavioral specialists
  • Supervise and provide direction to instructional aides and paraprofessionals
  • Collect and analyze student progress data and maintain compliant documentation
  • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and IEP team conferences
  • Maintain a safe, structured, and positive classroom environment that promotes student growth and independence

Qualifications

  • Valid California Education Specialist Credential
  • Authorization to teach students with Moderate to Severe Support Needs (or equivalent California authorization)
  • Knowledge of IDEA, IEP development, California Special Education regulations, and compliance requirements
  • Experience working with students with autism spectrum disorders, intellectual disabilities, multiple disabilities, behavioral needs, or medically complex students preferred
  • Strong collaboration, communication, organizational, and classroom management skills
  • New graduates with appropriate credentials are encouraged to apply
