Behavior Assistant – Belmont / Redwood Shores Area

Location: Belmont–Redwood Shores Area, CA
Compensation: $30–$40/hr (based on experience)
Schedule: 184 days/year, 6.5 hours per day
Classification: Classified – Para-Professional / Licensed Professional
Reports To: Behavior & Mental Health Program Manager

Position Summary

A school program in the Belmont–Redwood Shores area is seeking a Behavior Assistant to support students with diverse learning and behavioral needs. In this role, you will provide educationally related behavior services aligned with each student’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP).

This position is ideal for individuals passionate about supporting students with Autism, behavioral challenges, social-emotional needs, and communication difficulties. You’ll work closely with a Behavior Analyst, classroom staff, and the program manager.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation of positive behavioral strategies to help students meet IEP goals.

  • Provide 1:1 or small-group support for social skills development.

  • Collect data and maintain documentation for behavior plans and interventions.

  • Assist with classroom behavior management systems and daily routines.

  • Collaborate with the Behavior Analyst and participate in team planning meetings.

  • Observe and implement best practice strategies recommended by the support team.

  • Attend required district/SELPA trainings related to the position.


Knowledge & Skills

  • Child development, applied behavior analysis (ABA), and behavior intervention strategies.

  • Awareness of evidence-based behavioral protocols.

  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.

  • Ability to build effective rapport with students and staff.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Child Development, Behavioral Psychology, or related field preferred, or equivalent experience.

  • Experience working with students with Autism, behavioral needs, or developmental disabilities.

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a paraprofessional, tutor, or similar role preferred.

  • Strong communication and writing skills.

  • Reliable, punctual, and dependable.


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, kneel, or crouch throughout the day.

  • Adequate vision for reading and documentation.

  • Clear, understandable verbal communication.

  • Hearing sufficient for classroom and team communication.


Additional Information

  • Mileage reimbursement available for approved same-day travel between sites.
